1)往上：
The boat sailed up the river．
船逆江而上。
I met him as I was going up the hill.

2)在上……的地方：
The house stands half way up the mountain.
房子在半山腰。
They built the power station a mile up the hill.

3)沿着(街道)：
A taxi moved up the street.

3.upon的用法和例句
1)在……上面，大多数时候可以和on互换：
She placed the tray upon (on)the table.
她把盘子放在桌上。
A lot of work fell upon (on)his shoulders.
很多工作落到他肩上。
2)用于某些成语(有些可用on代替)：
We mustn’t impose our view upon(on)others
我们不能把自己的看法强加于人。
He laid great stress upon (on)the second point．
他对第二点非常强调。
The family lived upon (on)a small income．
这家人靠少量收入过活。
They insist upon(on)her staying there for supper．
他们坚持留她在那里吃晚饭。
